The museum acknowledged that, although the term 'Palestine' was used in academic settings, it has become associated with a political territory. The changes include replacing references to 'Palestinian descent' with 'Canaanite descent.' Over 5,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org, urging the museum to reconsider this decision, viewing it as an erasure of the Palestinian presence in history.

The museum plans further modifications as part of a long-term reconstruction program.
