Before the victory was confirmed, Flávio Bolsonaro announced that he would challenge the election result, citing, among other things, the extension of voting hours by two hours, a measure adopted after reports concerning transportation and heavy rain. In the first round, Lula had obtained 45.16% and Flávio Bolsonaro 47.03%, while the decisive result reversed the balance of power.
After the election, Donald Trump questioned the result in Brazil, saying that it “seemed like another rigged election” without presenting evidence and specifying that elections should not leave room for doubt; by Monday morning, he had not publicly acknowledged Lula’s reelection.
