The preliminary investigation showed that four screws missing from the door retainer bracket led to the incident in which the panel detached in flight. Boeing admitted responsibility and promised measures to prevent such events. The incident prompted the grounding of 171 Boeing 737 MAX 9 airplanes for inspections.
