Following a call from American President Donald Trump, Belarus released 52 prisoners, who headed to Lithuania alongside an American delegation. Among those released is journalist Ihar Losik, sentenced for incitement to hatred. Although this is the largest group of prisoners pardoned by Lukashenko, the release represents only 4% of the total requested by Trump. This action is seen as a gesture to improve relations with the USA, in the context of negotiations for lifting sanctions on Belarus. The leader of the Belarusian opposition criticized the gesture, emphasizing that it does not reflect a real change in the authoritarian policies of the regime.
