Alexander Pröll, the Austrian Secretary of State for Digitalization, sent a letter to the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen, requesting an analysis of 'the strategic establishment and participation of Anthropic within the European Union.' Pröll emphasized that discussions should focus on ensuring legal certainty, market access, capital, and appropriate values for the company. This initiative comes amid the European Union's efforts to reduce dependence on American and Chinese technology, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence. Additionally, the EU is in discussions with the US to join a partnership in the AI sector, considering the restrictions imposed by the Trump administration on access to Anthropic's models. Pröll stated that Anthropic's presence in Europe could attract talent, retain capital, and establish standards without compromising the development of its own European solutions.
