Australia will recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September, according to a statement by the Australian Prime Minister. The decision comes after France, Canada and other countries made similar announcements, underlining international pressure on Israel to find a solution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip, where the humanitarian crisis is severe. Almost three-quarters of UN member states already recognize Palestine, which was proclaimed in the 80s.
