Australia and the United States have agreed to rationalize the AUKUS Agreement, focused on the acquisition of nuclear-powered submarines, during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, and U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, confirmed that Australia will receive three Virginia-class submarines, but will no longer include new submarines. This adjustment aims to simplify supply chain management and optimize costs, with estimates suggesting that the AUKUS program could cost $235 billion over a 30-year period.

Currently, the U.S. Navy is facing difficulties in submarine production, which has raised questions in the U.S. about selling this equipment to Australia before rebuilding its own military forces.
