The Argentine government has announced that it will declare a state of emergency due to the devastating fires in Patagonia, affecting the provinces of Chubut, Rio Negro, Neuquén, and La Pampa. Since the beginning of the southern summer, approximately 45,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed, including 20,000 hectares in the Los Alerces natural park. Hundreds of firefighters, supported by 19 aircraft, are fighting to control the flames and protect nearby communities. Although recent rains have helped control the fires, the heat will return, which could reignite the fires. The government has allocated 87 million dollars to support volunteer firefighters, and a red alert for fire risk remains active in the region. The fires have not caused casualties in Argentina, unlike Chile, where deaths have been reported.
