The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated on Monday that he will continue to support Ukraine's accession to the European Union, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, held during the summit of the European Political Community (CPE) in Yerevan, Armenia.
Costa emphasized the importance of international support for Ukraine, mentioning that the future of this country is in the EU and that efforts will be made for a just and lasting peace, including by increasing pressure on Russia.
The summit brought together leaders from 48 countries, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, a first for this event. Additionally, the participation via videoconference of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was considered significant, reflecting the progress in relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The absence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was noted, as he was represented by his vice president, an exception made in the context of relations between Armenia and Turkey.
