French foreign minister warns 'there will be consequences' after expulsion of 12 French officials from Algeria

<p>Algeria has declared 12 French officials persona non grata in response to the arrest of an Algerian consular employee in France, sparking diplomatic tensions. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said Algeria's decision was regrettable and that France would react firmly. He also stressed that the French judiciary was independent and that the situation did not affect the recently resumed diplomatic dialog. This is the first expulsion of French diplomats from Algeria since its independence in 1962.
