The far-right candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella, won the second round of the presidential elections in Colombia on Sunday, obtaining nearly 13 million votes (49.65%), with a narrow lead of about 250,000 votes over Ivan Cepeda, the leftist candidate, who received 48.70%.


The difference between the two candidates is smaller than anticipated by polls, and the final result will be confirmed in the coming days.


De la Espriella, leader of the Defensores de la Patria movement, promised to transform Colombia into a "nation of miracles," with a governance plan focused on security, education, and combating corruption. He has also been supported by international leaders, including Donald Trump.


De la Espriella has managed to attract a diverse electorate, promising a close relationship with the United States to combat crime and narco-terrorism.
