The Ministry of Health has confirmed a case of leprosy (Hansen's disease) in Cluj-Napoca, the first in Romania in 40 years. The four affected women, employed as masseuses at a spa in the city, came from Asia, and two of them are from Indonesia. Three other individuals are showing symptoms and are awaiting test results. The salon has been closed and disinfected, and all employees will be tested. Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium, with an incubation period of nearly five years, but it is not transmitted through casual contact. The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, assured that the risk to the general population remains low, and the situation is being monitored responsibly by the authorities.
