Doctors have begun testing a revolutionary lung cancer vaccine, the world's first mRNA vaccine that also prevents recurrence of the disease.

The vaccine, called BNT116, is designed to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common form of the disease. The Phase 1 clinical trial has been launched in 34 research centers in seven countries. About 130 patients will be enrolled to receive the vaccine along with immunotherapy. The vaccine uses messenger RNA (mRNA) technology and works by presenting NSCLC-specific tumor markers to the immune system.
