Trade unionists from Sanitas raised an alarm on Tuesday, stating that the Government's plan to reduce the number of hospital beds by 20% by 2030, which means a cut of approximately 23,500 beds, will have a negative impact on access to care and patient safety. They emphasize that, on average, the equivalent of 6.5 county hospitals will be closed annually, which could lead to a crisis in the healthcare system.

Although the interim Minister of Health, Cseke Atilla, stated that Romania has a number of beds above the European average and that the reduction will not affect the quality of medical services, the trade unionists are calling for a detailed analysis of the impact on staff and communities. Additionally, the president of CNAS, Horațiu Moldovan, mentioned that many beds are unoccupied, which is why an administrative correction is desired.
