The Ministry of Health reported a significant decrease in the number of medical leave cases, with over 200,000 cases in the period from July to September 2025, representing a reduction of 28% compared to the previous year. This decrease has generated savings of over 300 million lei for the state budget. The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, explained that the legislative measures adopted in the summer, along with the inspections carried out in medical offices, have contributed to the reduction of leaves granted without a medical basis. The state has started to pay less for medical leaves related to common ailments, such as those of the spine or colds. There are suspicions that last year, in just two months, over a million medical leaves were granted, and these are now subject to verification.
