In 2026, an adult in Romania will pay between 1,900 and almost 6,000 lei for essential annual medical tests and investigations. Women, who need to undergo additional investigations, will have higher costs. According to statistics, Romania allocates only 24 euros per inhabitant for prevention, well below the European Union average, which contributes to the late diagnosis of diseases.

The recommended basic tests include a complete blood count, blood sugar, and lipid profile, and the total costs for annual tests range between 2,850 and 5,710 lei for women and 1,900 and 3,700 lei for men. Although men are less present at check-ups, their numbers have recently increased. Prevention is increasingly recognized as an investment in health, and clinics are seeing a rise in patients requesting regular check-ups. Romania faces a gap in life expectancy, which is 5.1 years below the European average, but is gradually improving.
