Alexandru Rogobete: HPV vaccination is increasing, but Romania remains below the EU average

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, stated that the vaccination rate against HPV is increasing in Romania, but it remains below the European Union average.

Since last year, Romania has implemented regulations that facilitate access to HPV vaccination, the main cause of cervical cancer. Alexandru Rogobete announced the extension of full compensation for girls and boys aged between 11 and 26 years, as well as the introduction of a 50% compensation for women aged between 27 and 45 years. This measure has led to an increase in the number of vaccinated individuals, although Romania remains below the European average, highlighting the need for better information.

Additionally, the minister announced the development of a national screening and prevention strategy for cervical and breast cancer, with recent investments in infrastructure, including the acquisition of 124 mammographs and the rehabilitation of 56 hospitals. Rogobete emphasized the importance of constant access to these services to ensure effective prevention.
