The National Institute of Public Health (INSP) has announced a sudden increase in deaths caused by influenza, with eight new deaths recorded, totaling 11 since the beginning of the season. The most affected are people over 65 years old, with nine deaths in this category. Although fewer respiratory infections have been reported in the last week compared to the previous week, the number of cases is 36.9% higher than in the same week of the previous season. Bucharest, Cluj, Constanța, and Prahova are the most affected counties. As of January 4, 2026, 572 cases of influenza have been confirmed, and flu vaccinations have reached 1,273,616, mostly for vulnerable groups. The elderly remain the most vulnerable to this disease.
