The content analysis of Romanian media sources over the past week provides an insight into the political media landscape in Romania, highlighting the predominant themes in the public discourse and editorial activity of the main news sources.

  • In a wordcloud, we see the keywords of recent articles illustrated, with "Romania" having an obvious prominence. Beyond that, we can see that the news and headlines of the last few days contain a lot of references to executive and foreign policy topics - terms such as "president", "government", "Russian" and "Ukraine". References to the EU and Europe count, too. We note from this the decrease in relevance of news related to Israel and Gaza by comparison.
  • Analyzing the impact generated by political media sources, the public's continued interest in topics such as governance, foreign policy and current events is noticeable. Examples of topics touched include the government (especially with news about the budget) and domestic politics, geopolitical tensions, and perhaps recent events in Ukraine, giving insight into the concerns of Romanian citizens. This diversity of topics suggests a society engaged and responsive to the national and international political context.

If we look at what left-leaning media outlets (such as Romania TV, Antena 3, Jurnalul or DC News) write, we see that there are fewer references to news about Ukraine and more references to domestic issues (including the Schengen issue, along with reports about various local incidents)

Press with a right-wing audience (ziare.com, Hotnews, G4media, Digi, Libertatea etc) contains more news related to domestic politics (attacks on PSD, especially) but also more international agenda, by comparison. References to Ukraine, Europe, even the situation in Gaza/Israel, are more visible here.

In rather radical media sources, with alternative content, we see an extensive preoccupation with promoting the name Diana Șoșoaca, with multiple references to her in relation to domestic or geopolitical topics (USA, Ukraine, for example). Among such sources we note ActiveNews, EpochTimes, National.ro, the Liberation Movement or the Legitimate Defense page on Facebook.

If we look at the top of political news sources, by the number of articles published, together with the trend percentage, which indicates the increase or decrease in editorial activity compared to a previous period, we can see that sources such as "adevarul.ro" and "Ziare.com" lead the top, with a high volume of articles, reflecting their role as key players in informing the public. At the same time, the Facebook pages "Digi24" and "StirileProTV" show a significant presence and increasing activity in the social media space, emphasizing the importance of social networks as platforms for distributing political news.
