The European Union imposed a fine of 890 million euros (approximately 1 billion dollars) on Google on Thursday, accusing it of violating digital antitrust regulations. European authorities claim that Google configured Google Play and its search engine to direct consumers towards its own services and applications, thereby affecting competition. This represents a significant new action from Brussels against large technology companies, playing a leading role in regulating the giants of Silicon Valley and Beijing. Recently, Google lost its appeal against a fine of 4.5 billion dollars for restricting competition and diminishing options for consumers through the dominance of its Android mobile operating system.
