The French Minister of Commerce, Nicolas Forissier, stated that the European Union has measures to counter the threats from American President Donald Trump, who announced his intention to increase tariffs on imports of cars and trucks from the EU to 25%. This decision comes in the context of some misunderstandings related to a trade agreement signed in July 2025.

Forissier emphasized that the EU will not be naive and will use the available tools to protect strategic industries, such as the oil industry. Members of the European Parliament will meet to finalize the necessary rules for implementing the trade agreement, which provides for the elimination of tariffs on American industrial goods in exchange for a cap of 15% on European products. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed that they are in the final phase of implementing tariff commitments, but mentioned that the US must align with the agreed cap, which has not yet happened.
