Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, emphasized the importance of accelerating the accession process of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, in the context of the rapid reforms implemented by Ukraine during the war. In a speech at the Globsec security forum in Prague, Metsola highlighted that Ukraine, despite the conflict, has made impressive legislative progress, suggesting that the EU must adapt to this pace.
Although she did not provide a specific date for accession, she stressed that delaying this process would be a mistake, considering Ukraine's contribution to Europe's security. Metsola warned that delaying integration could be exploited by neighboring countries, emphasizing that EU enlargement is essential for security. Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, confirmed her country's willingness to begin accession negotiations, highlighting integration into the EU as a strategic priority for Moldovan democracy.
