Members of the European Parliament have observed an alarming increase in cyber abuse, proposing the creation of a harmonized definition for cyberbullying, so that acts can be uniformly punished in all member states. It is also suggested to include hate-motivated crimes in European legislation. The Parliament calls on digital platforms to implement rapid reporting mechanisms to remove abusive content, especially that which targets minors. MEPs emphasize the responsibility of major social networks in managing algorithms that can promote dangerous content, demanding strict enforcement of the Digital Services Regulation.
It is proposed to label materials generated by artificial intelligence and to ban applications that create fake nudity without consent. Additionally, there is an emphasis on educating victims and supporting organizations that provide assistance, in the context where 90% of Europeans believe that authorities need to act more firmly for online safety.
