Luxembourg will receive a new supercomputer optimized for artificial intelligence, with 1,008 graphics processors and a maximum estimated performance of over 20 exaflops for AI tasks, following the signing of the procurement contract for the MeluXina-AI system.

In short, MeluXina-AI will be built with 252 nodes that include a total of 1,008 NVIDIA graphics processors based on the Blackwell architecture and liquid cooling systems. The system will be installed in two locations in Luxembourg, in Bissen and Bettembourg, and the installation works are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026. The budget for procurement, delivery, installation, and maintenance is 80 million euros, and the joint venture EuroHPC will cover half of the cost through the Digital Europe program. The supercomputer will be used for training, testing, and preparing advanced artificial intelligence models for use and will primarily be aimed at startups and small and medium-sized enterprises. The infrastructure will allow simultaneous use by multiple beneficiaries in separate environments and will be able to connect to data platforms, cloud services, and other European artificial intelligence factories.

The European joint venture for high-performance computing, EuroHPC, has signed a contract with the system integrator E4 Computer Engineering for the procurement, delivery, installation, and maintenance of the MeluXina-AI supercomputer. Dell Technologies will participate in the execution of the contract as a subcontractor.

The system will be hosted and operated by the national supercomputing center LuxProvide and will become the main computing infrastructure of the artificial intelligence factory in Luxembourg. It already offers services to startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, researchers, and other users through the current MeluXina supercomputer.

MeluXina-AI will be built on Dell Technologies servers and will include 252 nodes equipped with NVIDIA GB200 NVL4 systems, based on the Blackwell architecture and cooled with liquid. The 1,008 graphics processors will be complemented by a file system that will be able to handle both artificial intelligence tasks and regular high-performance computing operations.

The estimated maximum performance exceeds 20 exaflops for artificial intelligence operations. This value describes the theoretical capacity of the system for precision calculations commonly used in training AI models and is not directly comparable to the measured performance for traditional scientific calculations at higher precision.

The supercomputer will be installed in a distributed infrastructure between Bissen and Bettembourg. Installation activities are expected to begin in the fall of 2026, but the document does not indicate the date when the system is expected to be fully operational.

MeluXina-AI will provide the necessary computing power for training and testing advanced artificial intelligence models, as well as for preparing them before use in real conditions. The platform will be available for startups, companies of various sizes, researchers, and industrial organizations.

Access will be organized through a GPU-as-a-Service system, which allows on-demand allocation of graphics processors. Multiple beneficiaries will be able to use the infrastructure simultaneously, in isolated container-based environments, and computing tasks will be dynamically scheduled based on available capacity.

The separation of working environments is intended to protect sensitive data and intellectual property. The project also includes sovereign cloud capabilities for hosting AI applications in environments where data control, security, and compliance with European requirements can be managed directly.

The platform will be able to connect to external data sources, cloud service providers, and other artificial intelligence factories in the EuroHPC network. The integration is intended for projects that need to combine computing capacity with large data volumes and services available in multiple European centers.

The total budget of the contract is 80 million euros and covers the procurement, delivery, installation, and maintenance of the system. EuroHPC will finance 50% of the value through the Digital Europe program, and the rest of the cost will be covered by national contributions.

E4 Computer Engineering was selected following a procurement procedure launched in February 2026. The company will integrate the hardware and software components and will provide the necessary management platform for the allocation and monitoring of computing tasks.

The artificial intelligence factory in Luxembourg is coordinated by LuxProvide and implemented together with partners including Luxinnovation, Luxembourg National Data Service, the University of Luxembourg, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology. Its activities are focused on areas such as financial services, space, cybersecurity, and the green economy.

Luxembourg was selected in December 2024 to host one of the first European artificial intelligence factories. These centers combine supercomputers optimized for AI with access to data, technical services, and support for project development, especially for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises.

EuroHPC is currently coordinating the implementation of 19 artificial intelligence factories and 13 associated antennas in Europe. The network is built around the European supercomputing infrastructure and offers access to computing capacity and tailored assistance to AI solution developers.
