Voter turnout recorded up to 11pm on Saturday night in the first round of the presidential election is almost double the turnout in November 2024

By 11 p.m. on Saturday, a total of 397,637 Romanians in the Diaspora had already voted in the first round of the May 4, 2025 presidential elections, compared to 216.553 as had done so by the same time in the November 24, 2024 presidential polls.
For the Diaspora, voting started on Friday morning and is being held over three days, and the MAE has organized 965 polling stations for Romanian citizens abroad, compared to 951 polling stations as were available in 2024. At the same time, we recall that the results of the first round of the 2024 presidential elections were annulled by the CCR and that the May 2025 elections are a re-run.
The top three countries where Romanians in the Diaspora voted are, in descending order, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany. The breakdown by gender shows that 54% of those who voted were men and 46% women.
