The European Commission announced the unlocking of career bonuses for teachers in Romania, according to Roxana Menzatu, the vice president of the Commission.
The new rules require that at least 65% of the amount of 1,500 lei be used for professional training courses established by the Ministry of Education, an increase compared to previous proposals. The rest of the money can be used for books and educational materials. Estimates show that approximately 220,000 teachers will benefit from these bonuses, a decrease of 18% compared to previous estimates.
The Ministry of Investments and European Projects will draft a project to amend OUG 58/2023 to include the new rules, which are not yet in decision-making transparency. The European Commission has requested that spending be conditioned to focus on professional training.
