UBS is facing proposals to increase capital requirements from the Swiss government, which could force the bank to raise an additional 26 billion dollars. In this context, UBS management has discussed possible strategies with American officials, including the acquisition of a bank in the U.S. or a merger. Although CEO Sergio Ermotti stated that the bank wishes to remain in Switzerland, the current requirements are considered "punitive and excessive." London is also being considered as an alternative for relocation.
