The United States recently brought gold worth approximately 100 million dollars from Venezuela, according to statements by U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum. The announcement was made during the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, where Burgum mentioned that the gold was physically transported to the U.S. following an official visit to Venezuela earlier this month. This is the first such operation of transporting precious metals between the two countries in over 20 years. The gold will be used by American refineries for commercial applications and consumer products. The operation took place after the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, and the Trump administration is now collaborating with Delcy Rodríguez, the current interim leader of Venezuela. Burgum discussed for ten hours with Rodríguez, in an attempt to encourage American investments in the energy and mining sector of Venezuela. The country's mining industry is in collapse, and opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, has called for the complete privatization of the oil industry and emphasized the need for organizing free and fair elections.
