Representatives of the National Bank of Romania announced the exchange rate for Monday, May 4, 2026, highlighting a considerable depreciation of the Romanian leu.
The national currency has lost almost six bani against the euro, which reached a new historical record, being quoted at 5.1998 lei. Additionally, the leu has decreased by more than four bani against the US dollar, which was quoted at 4.4376 lei. In relation to the British pound and the Swiss franc, the leu has lost more than eight bani, with quotes of 6.0172 lei and 5.6670 lei, respectively. Furthermore, the price for a gram of gold has decreased by 30 bani, reaching 653.2534 lei. This depreciation of the leu may have significant implications for the Romanian economy.
