The Spanish company Telefónica, a major player in the telecommunications sector, is considering the acquisition of Digi Communications for approximately 3.8 billion euros, an amount that includes a debt of 1.8 billion euros and a premium of 20% over the current market value of the Romanian company. Digi operates in Romania, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Belgium, and Telefónica's interest does not guarantee a sale, also depending on the decision of owner Zoltán Teszári. Currently, Digi plans to list on the stock exchange in Spain, engaging investment banks to coordinate the process. An assessment by Erste Bank estimates the economic value of Digi at 3.6 billion euros, and Telefónica's offer would represent a premium of 7%. If the transaction materializes, Telefónica will expand its direct presence in Europe from three to seven countries.
