SK Hynix shares, a memory chip supplier for Nvidia, rose by over 11% on Wednesday at the Seoul Stock Exchange, while Samsung Electronics recorded a 5.5% increase.
In the past year, SK Hynix has seen a share price increase of approximately 1,000%, while Samsung has gained 500%. Samsung's market capitalization has exceeded $1 trillion, causing frustration among employees who have demanded a larger share of the profits generated by artificial intelligence.
Recently, SK Hynix reported a nearly 400% increase in net profit in the first quarter of 2026, due to increased demand for microprocessors. Employees at Samsung approved an agreement for substantial bonuses, while semiconductor engineers in South Korea have gained increased social status, symbolized by the vests with the SK Hynix logo.
