Romania is facing a historic public debt, exceeding one trillion lei, equivalent to 57.2% of GDP. This increase has been driven by the need to cover current payments and previous debts, with the Ministry of Finance selling government bonds worth over 856 billion lei. In the last month, the central public administration debt has increased by 6 billion lei, resulting in a debt of 1,016 billion lei, which implies a debt of over 55,000 lei for each Romanian.
