In the context of a record budget deficit, Romania commits to increase the defense budget to 5% of GDP, in compliance with NATO requirements. President Nicușor Dan underlines the importance of standardizing military spending in Europe and notes that the NATO summit will discuss this proposal. Romania, with the current 2.3%, will have to add 1.5% for military infrastructure, including the modernization of the port of Constanta and the improvement of transport links.
