Metinvest has received approvals from the European Commission and the Competition Council of Romania for the integration of a factory in Iași, scheduled for 2026. The factory has five production lines for pipes and will comply with all existing labor contracts. CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov emphasized the importance of this unit for job creation in Romania and Ukraine, contributing to post-war reconstruction.
The location of the factory, 600 kilometers from Zaporizhia, facilitates regular deliveries of raw materials from Ukraine, ensuring up to 180,000 tons of rolled steel annually. Metinvest, which has assets in other countries as well, is led by Rinat Akhmetov, an influential Ukrainian businessman. In contrast, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iași reported significant losses in 2024, highlighting difficulties in the steel industry.
