Mercedes-Benz is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with the German start-up Tytan Technologies for the development of a mobile defense system against drones, called Drone Defender.

This system is intended for intercepting small FPV-type drones, which pose a concern for European security services. Mercedes-Benz will provide the vehicles, including the Sprinter model and a military version of the G-Class SUV. Tytan Technologies will develop sensors and interceptor drones, including the Metis drone, with the aim of neutralizing suspicious drones.

The production of the Defender system is planned to start by the end of the year, with the goal of manufacturing thousands of units annually. The partnership reflects a trend in Germany, where automakers are seeking new opportunities in the defense sector. Additionally, German authorities encourage collaboration between the automotive and defense industries.

Mercedes-Benz has not officially commented, but the CEO previously mentioned the possibility of expanding activities in this sector.
