Starting from July 1, 2026, consumers in Romania will bear higher prices for products ordered online from outside the European Union, due to the introduction of a customs duty of 3 euros per item and a logistics fee of 25 lei per package. This change will affect packages valued under 150 euros, which were previously exempt from customs duties. Deloitte Romania specialists warn that these cumulative fees could exceed the price of the products, thus discouraging purchases from outside the EU. The customs duty is a measure adopted at the European level, aimed at eliminating the competitive advantage of external suppliers and responding to the increase in the number of imported packages. Additionally, Moldova will implement similar measures starting in October 2026. This regulation will require traders to comply with the new customs declaration requirements, which could lead to a restructuring of the business model for operators involved in international e-commerce.
