European markets rose on Thursday following the announcement that US President Donald Trump will meet Vladimir Putin. Investors reacted upbeat to the geopolitical de-escalation, as well as favorable financial results from companies in the Stoxx Europe 600 index, which rose 0.9%. Germany's DAX index advanced 1.1% and France's CAC 40 rose 1%, but the UK's FTSE 100 fell 0.7% as the pound rose.
