Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, stated that the Government has a strategy to reduce the electricity price from 1.55 lei per kWh, which was the case on the first day of his mandate, to one leu. Currently, four suppliers offer prices below 1.3 lei per kWh. Ivan emphasized that Romania is facing the highest electricity prices in relation to incomes, and 52% of the final price is made up of taxes. He highlighted the need to develop new production capacities to cover the deficit and reduce costs. Additionally, a memorandum regarding the national energy ecosystem will be discussed in CSAT, aiming to update legislation and improve energy prices. Ivan mentioned that only 52% of the cost paid by consumers is for active energy, with the rest being taxes and various tariffs.
