China has become Germany's largest trading partner again in 2025, after German exports to the United States decreased due to higher tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump. The total trade volume between Germany and China reached 251.8 billion euros, marking an increase of 2.1%. Although trade with the USA was affected, it remained the second most important market for Germany, with a volume of 240.5 billion euros, despite a decrease of 5%.

Imports from China increased by 8.8%, and economist Sebastian Dullien pointed out that higher tariffs on Chinese products destined for the USA led to their redirection towards Europe. The President of the German Trade Association, Dirk Jandura, warned about the risks of protectionism and emphasized the need to expand supply chains and access new markets to maintain competitiveness.
