Canada announced on Tuesday an ambitious multi-billion dollar plan to strengthen its military, focusing on national companies to reduce dependence on the United States.

Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that the country has relied too much on its geography and allies for protection, which has created unacceptable vulnerabilities. The defense strategy includes an investment of 82 billion dollars over five years, aiming to align with NATO standards.

Carney expressed concerns about Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic amid climate change.

He also highlighted the differences between Canadian nationalism, which promotes diversity, and American nationalism, emphasizing an ideological competition between the two nations.
