Bulgaria will join the eurozone on Thursday, becoming the 21st country to adopt the European single currency. This integration raises concerns among the population, which fears that the transition to the euro will lead to rising prices and political instability. Protests in the summer, supported by far-right parties, demand the retention of the Bulgarian lev, taking advantage of citizens' fears. However, Bulgarian governments believe that the euro will stimulate the economy, strengthen ties with Western Europe, and reduce Russia's influence.

Bulgaria, a member of the EU since 2007, faces significant challenges, including political instability and anti-corruption protests. Nearly 49% of Bulgarians oppose the adoption of the euro, and fears are heightened in poor rural areas. ECB President Christine Lagarde has highlighted the benefits of adopting the euro, including lower financing costs and more stable prices. However, food prices have risen by 5% annually before the adoption of the euro, and real estate prices have increased significantly. The Bulgarian parliament has strengthened oversight bodies to prevent unjustified price increases. Entering the eurozone could bring economic benefits, but governmental stability will be essential to take advantage of these advantages.
