Azomureș, the largest producer of chemical fertilizers in Romania, has announced that it will send approximately 600 employees into technical unemployment due to uncertainty regarding the supply of natural gas and the blockage in negotiations with Romgaz for the takeover of the plant. This measure will also affect over 1,500 employees of the contracting firms on the platform in Târgu Mureș, where maintenance and service contracts will be suspended or significantly reduced.
Discussions between Azomureș and Romgaz for a possible acquisition have taken place over the past year, but so far no clear offer has been submitted. Romgaz has hired consultants for the necessary due diligence analysis for the acquisition decision, and the measure of technical unemployment is considered temporary, aimed at avoiding permanent layoffs while waiting for viable solutions to resume activity.
