Cătălin Sandu, 49 years old, and Atena Gabriela Vrânceanu, 29 years old, were arrested in Australia, accused of being involved in a scam network targeting elderly individuals. The two were presented to the Brisbane Court, where they were charged with robberies in the suburbs of the city, in New South Wales and Queensland.
The Australian police claim that Sandu and Vrânceanu operated through a well-organized plan, selecting victims aged between 70 and 94 years, whom they followed at ATMs or in shopping centers. They pretended to offer help while another member of the group stole their credit cards.
Following the investigations, it was discovered that the network stole approximately $150,000 from elderly individuals. Sandu faces 18 charges, while Vrânceanu faces 12, both remaining in preventive custody. The sentencing date is set for May 22.
