A 58-year-old Romanian caregiver has been sentenced in Austria for stealing valuable items from two elderly women, one of whom suffers from severe dementia. The incident, which came to the attention of the Feldkirch Regional Court, raises serious questions about the supervision of vulnerable individuals and the control of employees in care facilities.

The defendant exploited the vulnerability of one of the victims, who required constant care, and gained illegal access to the belongings of the second victim. Although he admitted his actions, the man complained about the working conditions and insufficient pay.

The court sentenced him to five months of suspended prison and a fine of 800 euros, with most of the stolen goods being returned to the victims. The case highlights the need for strict protective measures for elderly individuals, especially those with cognitive issues, to prevent abuse and theft.
