The Canadian province of Quebec has decided to abruptly abandon its main immigration program, the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), and to significantly reduce immigration thresholds for the future. This measure will affect thousands of temporary residents, who are now required to leave the province. The government argues that temporary immigrants put pressure on public services, while affected workers, business leaders, and opposition parties warn that this reform will harm the economy and demand a protection clause for those affected. At the federal level, Canada also intends to reduce temporary immigration by over 40% this year.
