Approximately 3.4 million households in Germany will benefit from average discounts of 15% on electricity, due to the reduction of taxes and wholesale prices.

According to the analysis of the comparison portal Verivox, regional utility companies in Germany have announced 101 price reductions for the months of February, March, and April, with an average of 15%. These reductions will affect approximately 3.4 million households, which will pay less for electricity.

The main reasons for these reductions are the decrease in electricity network fees and lower wholesale prices. At the beginning of the year, nearly half of the 780 basic electricity suppliers had already reduced prices by an average of 9%.

A typical household of three people, with an annual consumption of 4,000 kilowatt-hours, will save an average of 279 euros per year. However, many consumers are not aware of the differences between basic supply and special contracts, and 49% of households do not know these distinctions.

The average price for basic supply is approximately 41 cents per kilowatt-hour, while special rates are often cheaper. Consumer advocates recommend switching to a special contract, which could save households several hundred euros annually. Basic service contracts can be terminated with two weeks' notice, providing the opportunity to take advantage of additional discounts.
