WhatsApp has introduced a new option called Strict Account Settings, which allows users to activate multiple strict security measures with a single click. This functionality blocks attachments received from unknown contacts, disables previews for received links, and silences calls from unknown numbers. The measures are especially aimed at users exposed to targeted attacks, such as public figures, journalists, or social activists. In an official statement, WhatsApp emphasizes the importance of end-to-end encryption but acknowledges that in certain cases, additional measures are necessary. This initiative comes in response to spyware attacks in recent years, including from some governments. The implementation of the option began on Tuesday evening and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
