Florin Drăgan, rector of the Politehnica University of Timisoara, criticizes the Romanian state's management of education, considering it an accounting cost and not a strategic investment. He points out that school dropout rates are alarming and that recent changes to the scholarship system, without consultation with academics, are negatively affecting the future of education. Drăgan argues that a coherent and well-thought-out approach to bursaries could boost performance and reduce school drop-outs, while the current cuts in education will have negative long-term effects.
