On Sunday, December 28, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Ilfov County, just 11 km west of Bucharest, at a depth of 13.8 km, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development (INCDFP).
This area of Romania, Muntenia, is known for its low seismic activity, which makes this event more notable. The earthquake was felt near the cities of Ploiești, Giurgiu, and Târgoviște. Additionally, a day earlier, on December 27, another earthquake occurred in the Vrancea area, with a magnitude of 2.7, at a depth of 138.4 km, but it was considered weak. Information is being updated.
