Traian Basescu has been allocated a protocol apartment by government decision, following a Constitutional Court ruling that he is entitled to a home despite his final conviction for collaboration with the Securitate. He was originally due to receive a villa, but this was postponed by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Basescu had previously lost the right to benefits such as compensation and protection, but the Constitutional Court ruled that withdrawing them was unconstitutional, allowing him to return to certain privileges.
